Fire classification in Europe and the United States, accredited thermal tests, regulatory framework and safety data sheet of the core. Everything an engineer or a purchasing office wants to see before saying yes.
Very limited contribution to fire (B), absent or negligible smoke production (s1), no burning droplets or particles (d0). Classification to EN 13501-1:2019 based on two tests carried out by Istituto Giordano. The panels are not flammable and do not spread fire: the inorganic composition of the core makes them fire-resistant.
Six specimens (three longitudinal, three transverse), flame applied both on the surface and on the edge. Result on all: the flame does not reach 150 mm and does not ignite the filter paper.

In the American Steiner-tunnel test the panel achieves flame-spread index 5 and smoke-developed index 5 (maximum allowed 450 for both): the highest class. Ignition time 0.10 minutes, maximum spread distance 41.15 cm, time to maximum spread 1.68 minutes. Estimated NFPA rating of the core: health 1, flammability 0, reactivity 0.

There is no harmonised European standard yet for phase-change panels: the obligation of CE marking and declaration of performance only starts with the publication of the standard in the Official Journal and the end of the coexistence period. Meanwhile TI-SKIN follows the ETA procedure (European Technical Assessment), already activated, which allows sale pending the final mark. One-off products, products made to the client's specification or for a specific work remain outside the obligation anyway.
The core is a mixture of hydrated salts (sodium sulphate 45-60%, sodium tetraborate under 5%, hydrated magnesium aluminosilicate 10-25%, water 35-60%), sealed in a heat-sealed, water-tight multilayer film. In this configuration the product is a very low hazard for its intended uses. The full sheet (16-section MSDS, 2026 edition) is document 04 of the series.
No risk in normal use. Only if the film is torn with the core in liquid phase: possible mild irritation of eyes and skin. Rinse with water for 15 minutes; if swallowed do not induce vomiting and drink water; see a doctor if discomfort persists. Inhalation is practically impossible: the material is a solid or a pudding-like liquid.
Non-flammable material; use the extinguishing agent appropriate to the surrounding fire. Stable at room temperature in closed packaging; the change of state occurs inside the package between about 24 and 30 °C. No incompatibility with other materials, no hazardous polymerisation.
Gloves recommended for a better grip on the film; wash hands after handling. Avoid high-traffic areas where the film might be punctured. Store in the original packaging, out of direct sunlight.
The components are not listed as carcinogens by IARC, NTP or OSHA. Low acute toxicity (oral LD50 in rats 918-1,668 mg/kg; dermal in rabbits above 5,000 mg/kg). Once packaged no respirable silica is present.
Does not deplete oxygen in water, low potential to affect aquatic organisms and treatment sludge, no bioaccumulation. The mineral fraction is insoluble in water and not biodegradable.
Not classified as dangerous goods for transport (DOT 49 CFR 172.101, TDG). At end of life the panel is removed and reused; for disposal follow local rules: separate collection of packaging, no landfill where recycling exists, out of the reach of children.
